My husband, Doug, is born and bred in the USA from a Navy family. I was born in South Africa and have been in the USA since January, 2000. We met 19 years ago and have been married for 16. We live in Northern Virginia with our teenager, tween and 80lb Bernadoodle, Dash. We love the outdoors and when the weather is good you can usually find us in our backyard, hiking, camping or next to the river.
THE STORY
Roughly 28 years ago, my dad saw his friend, Kennedy, use these tongs to move hot bricks without even needing to put his beer down!! He instantly knew he was looking at something amazing. With Kennedy’s approval, my dad, Malcolm, that is how the name came about (Ma)lcolm and (Ken)nedy, took the tong and after a few tests and tweaks, had it manufactured and ready for the South African market. These sold like hot cakes as you can imagine with a culture that is centered around an open fire that is almost always results in a braai (grilling food over a wood/charcoal fire).
Whenever our family returned from one of our trips in South Africa, we would always bring a couple of tongs with us as gifts for friends and family. Over the years all that have received them have raved about them and still use them to this day.
We are so happy that we have been able to launch them into the USA market and hope that should you get yourself some MaKen tongs that they bring you and your loved ones many happy moments and memories around the fire.
